Hours of Service/Log Books

The Hours of Service Regulations in Canada govern the maximum number of driving hours and the minimum off-duty time for commercial vehicle drivers. These Regulations also require drivers to keep a record of their daily driving and other work activities in a daily log book. The Regulations are designed to promote public safety by ensuring that drivers are not fatigued while at the wheel. This course will provide the basic knowledge and information required for drivers, fleet operations staff, and logistics planners to manage driver fatigue.

Course Overview

The Hours of Service Regulations have been put into place to increase safety on our highways because tired drivers are not safe drivers. It is important that all drivers know and understand the Regulations in order that they remain compliant at all times. All drivers must comply with the Hours of Service Regulations. Discussion covering the basic Regulations will provide anunderstanding of how this applies to a drivers’ daily activities. The second half of the Hours of Service Regulations covers log books and documentation, including what needs to be audited in a driver’s log and how to complete this process. Non-compliance issues will also be covered.
